UKVI stands for UK Visas and Immigration. This version of the IELTS is specifically designed for people who need to prove their English proficiency for UK visa applications. It is recognized and accepted by the UK government as part of the visa application process.
The main difference between IELTS and IELTS for UKVI is how they are used and the security requirements.
IELTS:
It's a test to check your English skills for studying, working, or migrating to countries like Canada, Australia, the USA, and even the UK.
It can be taken at any authorized IELTS center.
IELTS for UKVI:
This is a special version of the IELTS test required by the UK government for certain visa applications.
It’s almost the same test as IELTS, but it’s conducted under stricter rules to meet UK government requirements.
The test report says "IELTS for UKVI" to show it follows UK visa rules.
Take IELTS if you don’t need it for a UK visa.
Take IELTS for UKVI if you are applying for a UK visa and the visa requires this specific version.
The score you will need for UKVI applications, known as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level & this depends on the visa you are applying for.
For CEFR level A1, you need to pass the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A1 test (Listening & Speaking).
For CEFR level A2, you need to pass the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A2 test (Listening & Speaking).
For CEFR level B1, you need to pass the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills B1 test (Listening & Speaking).
For CEFR level B1, you need to get at least an IELTS score of 4 in all the sections.
For CEFR level B2, you need to get at least 5.5 in all the 4 sections.
For CEFR level C1, you need to get at least 7 in all the 4 sections.
